Aviation Security

The Aviation Security Division (ASD) ensures MSP's compliance with federal, state and local regulations and investigates suspicious activity and security violations. The division is responsible for the secured area access control system, which regulates the use of over 17,000 airport ID badges.

The Aviation Security Division is comprised of the Counter Terrorism Unit, the Badging Office, the Explosive Ordinance Canine Unit and oversight of the Secured Area Card Access System, CCTV system and contract security services. The Division Commander also acts as MSP's Airport Security Coordinator.

ASD Officers conduct vulnerability assessments, taking action to ensure compliance and facilitate improvements. They provide security related training and work closely with airport tenants on safety and security issues. They coordinate operation SCAN, a program that provides cash rewards to airport employees who properly challenge plain clothes officers entering secured areas without displayed ID. Cash awards are also given for reporting suspicious persons or activities affecting secured areas that result in police apprehension.
